A major redevelopment plan for Mount Pleasant Towne Centre is moving forward, aiming to bring housing, office space, green space, and family entertainment to the popular shopping destination.

The town’s planning commission voted this week to approve the 2025 master plan, which would allow up to 421 residential units, more than 87,000 square feet of office space, and 188 hotel rooms. The project would roll out in phases and only move forward if anchor tenants like Belk or Regal Palmetto Grande vacate.

The Plan now heads to Mount Pleasant Town Council for a first reading on July 8.

Book Bag Drive

Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce is looking for pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers, and composition notebooks (no patterns or graphics) for the Back to School Drive. There will be a donation box at the Bi-Monthly Luncheon starting on June 18 and the box will be available at the Chamber office through July to donate. 534 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Ste 101

Last year, 180 book bags were donated to St. James Santee Elementary School and 80 book bags to Windwood Farm Family Services.
