Around town

Halloween is coming into focus. Wondering where to trick-or-treat this year? Our Mount Pleasant Halloween guide has the running list — neighborhoods, trunk-or-treats, and the big events — and we're updating it weekly through October 31. Further out: Towne Centre's Fall Festival is Saturday, October 24, 12–3, and next Thursday under the oaks brings Dallas Baker and the Pluff Daddy's, two-time City Paper Bluegrass Band of the Year, October 22 at 6.

More Mt P between Mondays — we're on Instagram at @mountpleasantscoop with events, openings, and the occasional sunset you'll wish you'd caught in person.

The free stuff is the good stuff

A festival with free pony rides, a free concert under century-old oaks, a free group run with a sunrise over the Cooper — this week makes the case on its own. For the other 51 weeks, we keep our guide to free things to do in Mount Pleasant stocked with ideas that cost exactly nothing — the bridge walk, the pier swings, the marsh at Pitt Street, and the rest. Bookmark it for the next "we're bored" Saturday.
